In January we said goodbe to JB, who decided that tree surgery wasn’t for him in the long term.  He came to us as a friend of a friend and followed a apprenticeship leading to a level 2 Diploma Trees and Timber, at Sparsholt College.  At college for one day a week over the course of about a year, JB passed three important practical qualifications enabling him to use a chainsaw safely, and to perform an aerial rescue.  He was also trained and successfully passed his license to tow a trailer so that he could drive the trucks and take the chipper with him.  While he was with us, he made a very useful contribution.

And then our second climber fell in love, and moved to the Isle of Wight.  As old romantics, we could hardly be upset about that, could we?

A few people have asked us why we continue to invest in training folks when there is no guarantee that they will stay around.  You might have heard the old joke beloved by many a trainer:

“What happens if we invest all this money training peple and they leave?” asked the boss to the head of training one day.  “What happens if we don’t, and they stay…?” came the response.

Andrew has a long history of supporting local people who want to come into the industry, and particularly young people or career changers who are starting out.  There are lots of ways into the business and plenty of advice and suport out there if you know where to find it.  We’re always happy to talk to anyone who’d value a conversation about their next steps and have at least one of those kinds of chats every week!

So, after a short recruitment exercise, we have been very pleased to welcome TK to our team recently.  Like all our team, he’s an a fully qualified all-rounder who enjoys his climbing and will no doubt both learn from and teach our team a thing or two while he’s with us.
