We’ve written regularly about the way we use mobile elevated working platforms in practical tree surgery, and how valuable they are in helping to increase safety and efficiency when we’re working at height.
This job below is a good example to show why we will always need qualified, trained and experienced climbers able and willing to work from a rope and harness in the tree.
There was no access for a MEWP in this domestic garden – a common, every day reality – and so Jay is pruning the boundary trees using a 2-rope system which mitigates the risk of falling from the tree if one of his ropes is cut. In fact, he’ll usually be roped in in three different places, using a short rope known as a strop to hold him steady in position.
Though nothing can be guaranteed as safe, a great deal of our work planning and organisation starts with two simple questions: What could hurt us…and…what could we hurt?
