We were off to a great start at the beginning of January when we took some of the team off for some accredited training on using Mobile Elevated Working Platforms – or MEWPs – as we know them.Use of a powered platform is becoming more and more common in the industry as safety standards rise and we are all encouraged to do what we can to avoid the hazards involved in climbing at height.  Of course, good old rope and harness is often the only way that the job can be done, but we always consider now whether a MEWP will make the job safer for us, and quicker for the customer.

Until now, we have usually hired our MEWPS with a trained and accredited operator, and we’ll probably still do that from time to time when it helps to have the extra manpower on site.  But now three members of the team are fully trained and accredited as a result of a good day with Claude Fenton Hire and the very helpful trainer Martin Gibbs. The day involved both theoretical and practical assessment! Though it feels a bit like going back to school sometimes, this kind of training is great for the team and we always come away having learnt something new and useful, and feeling more confident with our equipment. You’re never too old to learn!
