What a fantastic summer it’s been.
The team has expanded again and we’ve welcomed Tom and Jay as our new trainee Arborists.
For both of them, this summer has been all about building a good overview of the role, and getting their training well underway with a range of formal off line training and daily structured and informal learning.
Tom joined us in March with a background in warehousing and pub work. Like Jay, who came from an engineering role at Mars and joined us full time in June, Tom had three years work experience and was looking to get into an outdoor career that would give him the chance to train and qualify as he learned.
Andrew is training both Tom and Jay, with the help and input of all of our experienced team members and the various partner agencies that we use:
- Courses, seminars, events and reading through The Arboricultural Association for information, education and knowledge building;
- Land Based Training in Arborfield who provide great practical training;
- The Bat Conservation Trust who we turn to for advice about wildlife
- The Red Cross who provide all out First Aid Training
- HCS Safety in Southampton who have tailored a H&S programme for us and which will we run again shortly
Jay is about to start his apprenticeship, leading to a Level 2 Diploma in Trees and Timber at Sparsholt College. This is a new venture for us all and we’re excited to see what it can offer and how it goes for Jay and the team. Updates to follow!
